The khlong ( waterway) behind Patumwan House where we stay in Bangkok. Other than trains, the khlongs are a great way to get around and you can end up in the most interesting places.
City hall with a huge picture of the King in front. Everyone loves the royal family in Thailand and what the King says goes.
When we are in Bangkok this is where we have breakfast. Just around the corner from the hotel and soooooo tasty, fresh, cheap and friendly.
Our carriage on the Bangkok - Chaing Mai line.
Here A is trying to get comfy in our first class cabin as we head out of Bangkok station. This was just before the charming hostess snuck 3 bottles of beer in an ice bucket through our door. Minutes later a rather drunk steward stumbled in with an empty glass and asked if he could have some. "Why not " I said, filling his glass before he stumbled off into the night never to be seen again.
Paddle boats in Lumphini park in central Bangkok. A very peaceful oasis in the middle of the funtastic madness that is BKK with lakes, walking tracks, trees and quiet places for meditation.
Some massage stones in the park. There is a track which you walk over these stones barefoot to give great accupressure massage on your feet.
Here is B at the bottom of the BIG swing. Many years ago there was an actual swing where men showed their courage by swinging as high as they could. Just like we used to do as children, but as you can see this swing is enormous and many people fell off and died so they took the swinging mechanism away. Love this photo - VERY Alfed Hitchcock.
